We counted only about five cars on the road during our entire stay. A dog barked steadily in the distance throughout the afternoon and early evening, but stopped around 9:00 p.m. and remained quiet for the rest of the night.

Wildlife: Wonderful sound of katydids and a variety of frogs called throughout the night. I also heard what I believe may have been an Eastern Whip-poor-will calling twice after dark. These sounds put me in a deep sleep. I did not observe any larger wildlife during this visit.

Mosquitoes and Ticks: Surprisingly few mosquitoes. Despite camping beside a pond surrounded by woods, they were only an occasional nuisance and never became a problem. We did, however, find a few tiny ticks on us during this visit.

Hammock Friendly: Seasonal. This site was hammock-friendly during our earlier spring visit before the trees leafed out. By late June, low branches and dense foliage made hanging between the trees impractical, so I used my hammock stand instead. If you’re visiting during the growing season, I recommend bringing a stand if you have one.

Tents: Plenty of level ground with minimal to no rocks. However, the ground is hard and driving stakes in was a bit of a challenge.

Camp Cooking: There is a fire ring that my husband used. I used my Trangia stove paired with a 27 g solid fuel tablet. I was testing how it performed, and it did exceptionally well. A single tablet thawed my frozen greens, brought approximately 12 oz of water to a boil, cooked my meal, and continued burning for several more minutes. I also found that a 6 g tablet is sufficient to boil 12 oz of water for my amazing morning coffee. Is there anything better than morning campsite coffee?

Additional Notes: The pond water was crystal clear with a beautiful tannin tint. I even lowered my DJI Action 4 into the water hoping to capture underwater wildlife, but instead discovered just how remarkably clear the pond really was. This isn’t a stagnant, smelly pond. It’s fed by water flowing down from the surrounding hills, and the overflow eventually makes its way into the creek below.

💬 Questions?

Have a question about this campsite, trail, gear, or field notes?

Ask a Question

Reed Creek Campsites, Frogiagon Alley, Westpoint, TN 👉 Visit Official HipCamp Website 🌳 Hammock Friendly Summer: No (leafed-out trees) 🔥 Campfire Friendly Yes, fire ring 📶 Cell Service AT&T 0 bars (iPhone), 0 bars (Android) 🚗 Man-made Noise Very light road traffic 🐸 Wildlife Several types of frogs 🌲 Privacy High 🥵 Season / Temp…

[1
3,5,6
post-5223014134143436438","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-campsite","tag-hipcamp","tag-tennessee
["GET
