Here in middle Tennessee, The weather was unseasonably warm, in the 70s, so we decided to take a quick overnight trip to Hipcamp “Rum Creek Cattle Farm” and go hiking at Burgess Falls.

We’ve camped at this location before, which is located in cattle field. My husband brought along his Haven Spectre hammock, and I set up my Durston x-Dome 1+.

While my husband safely hung from the trees, I was desperately trying to find a place to set up my tent that was free of cow patties. They were everywhere. And damp. The last time we were here was in June and everything was bone dry, but this time everything was nice and damp. I did my best to avoid them, but couldn’t completely, which seriously had me reconsidering the ground sheet that my tent sits on.

We hiked around Burgess Falls and had the view from the top. This past summer, we kayaked to the base and ‘The Queen’, as she is known locally, was overflowing that day. From the top, she looked tamed.

That night, we heard a coyote really close to our camp. It was a wonderful experience. Since it’s winter, the peepers weren’t out, but the owls were and a deer was next to my tent.

It was a successful trip. We had 2-3 bars lte, and the high was 72 and the low 65.
